So, Rick Perry makes it official. I like Rick Perry ok. He's been a good governor - in a state with a cooperative legislature of the same party. But, he has is issues too and the enema he's about to get from the media will reveal his weaknesses. While I think this will soon become a Romney - Perry race, I have a feeling people in the party who thought Perry would save us will still be looking for the GOP "savior" when all is said and done. This blog put together a good chart comparing Perry to Romney. I certainly see nothing that would sway my support of Romney for the nomination. In my mind, Perry's biggest negative is that he seems to be running for Pastor-in-Chief and is being billed as the "evangelicals'" answer to the "weird" Romney. This is the same spot the Huckster tried to fill in 2008. I, personally, find it offensive. We'll see if Perry supports and stokes the argument like the Huckster did. I hope not. How Perry does handle the competition will determine the enthusiasm with which I can support him if he does, in fact, win the nomination (which I don't think he will).
